Lady Bantams on a Six-Game Winning Streak

USC Union Lady Bantams are currently on a six-game winning streak and celebrating a three series sweep while they are ranked second in the NJCAA Region 10 conference. They shut out their rival, USC Sumter, 9-0 during the first game on March 17th and defeated them 10-1 in second game. The Lady Bantams also had a strong victory over Florence Darlington Technical College (FloDar) on March 19th.

In the first game on March 17thAlexandra Bell didn’t allow a single run against USC Sumter and only allowed six hits. Lady Bantams pulled off the big victory without ever scoring many runs in an inning. The most they scored was two in the seventh. Lady Bantams opened up scoring in the first inning.  Hannah Truett grounded out, scoring one run.

A single by #17 in the second inning was a positive for USC Sumter.

Bell got the start for Lady Bantams. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing zero runs on six hits, striking out nine and walking zero.

#17 led things off in the pitcher’s circle for USC Sumter. The bulldog allowed 11 hits and nine runs over seven innings.

Lady Bantams tallied 11 hits in the game.  DeAnna SweatMolly Winstead, and Gracie Starnes all managed multiple hits and Sweat went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

The second game had the offense fired up in the first inning of the second game.  Emma Chapman drove in one when Chapman singled. They put up four runs in the seventh inning.  Lady Bantams put the pressure on, lead by singles by Molly Winstead and Gracie Starnes and a double by Madison Truett.

Brianna Compton got the start for Lady Bantams. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out four.

#29 toed the rubber for USC Sumter. The hurler lasted seven innings, allowing 13 hits and ten runs while striking out two.

Lady Bantams racked up 13 hits in the game with Hannah TruettChapmanMatigan NettlesWinstead, and Starnes all managing multiple hits for Lady BantamsChapman and Truett each collected three hits to lead Lady Bantams.

#22 went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead USC Sumter in hits.

During the first game against FloDar on March 19th, a walk-off double propelled Lady Bantams to a decisive, dramatic victory over Florence Darlington Technical College, 10-9. The game was tied at nine with Lady Bantams batting in the bottom of the thirteenth when Gracie Starnes doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Starnes led Lady Bantams to victory by driving in four runs.  Starnes went 3-for-7 at the plate.  Starnes drove in runs on a triple in the second, a double in the fourth, and a double in the thirteenth. Lady Bantams opened up scoring in the second inning when Starnes tripled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.They knotted the game up at nine in the bottom of the eleventh inning and Emma Chapman hit a solo homer.

After Florence Darlington Technical College scored two runs in the top of the sixth, Lady Bantams answered with two of their own. Florence Darlington Technical College scored when a sacrifice bunt by #23 scored one run for Florence Darlington Technical College and #27 singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.  Lady Bantams then answered when Hannah Truett singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Lady Bantams scored three runs in the second inning and their offense in the inning came from a triple by Starnes and an error on a ball put in play by Bianca Campos. Alexandra Bell got the start for Lady Bantams. The righthander went 13 innings, allowing nine runs on 20 hits, striking out seven and walking one.

#10 led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Florence Darlington Technical College. The bulldog went 12 and two-thirds innings, allowing ten runs on 17 hits and striking out eight.

Lady Bantams tallied one home run on the day. Chapman went deep in the eleventh inning.  The team collected 17 hits on the day.  StarnesTruettMatigan NettlesMadison TruettCampos, and DeAnna Sweat all collected multiple hits for Lady Bantams.  NettlesTruett, and Starnes all had three hits to lead Lady Bantams.

Florence Darlington Technical College had 20 hits in the game.  #27#1#2#9#17, and #23all had multiple hits for Florence Darlington Technical College.  #27 led Florence Darlington Technical College with five hits in seven at bats.

The Lady Bantams held their own during the second game and still held off Florence Darlington Technical College for an 11-9 victory on Sunday. Florence Darlington Technical College scored five runs in the failed comeback on a error, a by #13, a groundout by #21, and a error.

Hannah Truett led Lady Bantams to victory by driving in four runs.  Truett went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in runs on a fielder’s choice in the first, a single in the second, and a in the fifth.

After Florence Darlington Technical College scored one run in the top of the fourth, Lady Bantams answered with one of their own. Florence Darlington Technical College scored when #1 singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.  Lady Bantams then answered when Matigan Nettles singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Lady Bantams pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Truett singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs and an error scored one run for Lady Bantams. The team notched four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by Lady Bantams was led by TruettDeAnna Sweat, and Madison Goossens, who each had RBIs in the inning. Brianna Compton was in the pitcher’s circle for Lady Bantams. The pitcher lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out three.

#14 led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Florence Darlington Technical College. The bulldog surrendered seven runs on eight hits over four innings.  #27 threw two innings in relief.

Lady Bantams racked up 11 hits in the game with Gracie StarnesMolly Winstead, and Truett each collecting multiple hits for Lady Bantams.  Starnes led Lady Bantams with four hits in five at bats.
