As USC Union continues to grow, the campus would like to thank everyone for their constant support over the years. The transformation of campus has been a tremendous asset to the Union community and to the local economy due to expanding the campus facilities downtown Union and out to Jonesville.
Campus has had consecutive record enrollments with the highest being 1,228 students during spring semester 2022. One major factor that has contributed to the growth is the partnership with USC Aiken. The partnership allows USC Union to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in Union – including coursework and clinicals. Nursing students utilize the Virtual Reality Lab located in the Rippy Building and the Nursing Simulation Lab building, which is complete with beaming classrooms, a skills lab, and low to high fidelity mannequins that will allow students to practice without risking harm to human patients.
Another main factor for the enrollment growth is that the athletic department added more athletic teams. Bantam athletics now consists of four National Junior College Athletic Association (JUCO) teams: women’s softball, men’s baseball, men’s soccer, and women’s volleyball; and three club teams: rifle team, bass fishing, and e-gaming. The past semesters have yielded over 100 athletes each season, which includes international students.
Different facilities on campus need internal upgrades to keep up with the constant growth. Both Whitener Central Building (309 E. Academy St.) and Main Building (401 E Main St.) will undergo various upgrades beginning in January 2023 through the end of 2024. The Whitener Central Building will begin a much-needed HVAC capital project on Monday, January 30th. The bottom floor will still host classes and office spaces, but the second floor of the building will be unoccupied until completion and those classes or offices will be relocated during this time.
We apologize in advance, but during this construction period no external organizations or groups will be able to utilize any facilities at USC Union. We are in the process of contacting groups that have the Community Room and other spaces reserved to give them enough time to relocate.
The following offices will be located to the First Baptist Church gym (located behind the church) beginning January 23rd until project is complete:
Campus Dean, Human Resources, Dean’s Assistant, Business Department (budget, finance, travel, student tuition accounts), Operations/Facilities, Marketing, Development, Athletics.
Any faculty that is being relocated will contact their students via Blackboard or email.
The Whitener Building’s HVAC project is tentatively scheduled for six months. After that project is completed, the Main Building will undergo the same type of HVAC project, but it will affect the entire building during the process. Campus will put out more information concerning the Main Building closer to time.
