USC Union Alumni Spotlight – John Michael Greer

John Michael Greer was a student at USC Union from 2016 to 2018 and graduated with his associates degree in the spring of 2018. After graduating from USC Union, he continued his education through USC Upstate where he obtained his Bachelor in Information Management and Systems. By beginning as a work study in the USC Union’s IT department, it helped prepare him for his future in IT and was given a chance to learn better time management skills.

Currently, Greer serves as the iCarolina Lab Coordinator for USC Union and also as the Union County Carnegie Technology Coordinator. He plans to obtain his Masters Degree in Computer Science. While he was a student at USC Union, Greer was a member of the Rotaract Club, which is a college level Rotary Club. He served as club secretary his first year and club president during the second year.

Greer says, “USC Union means a lot to me in many ways. USC Union is where I found myself and became the person I am today. It became a second home to me and somewhere that I can visit at any time and be greeted with a welcoming smile. Somewhere that accepts you for who you are. Without experiencing what USC Union had to offer, I don’t know where I’d be.”

When asked if he had any advice for current or prospective students, he said, “My advice to students would be to make sure you actively listen to your professors. Make sure you talk to your professors and advisor; they will play key roles in making sure you get to where you want to go in life. Also, do not be afraid to ask for help, and utilize the amenities on campus, like the Student Academic Success Center.”
