Lady Bantams Softball Sweep Gaston College Rhinos

Game One

Hannah Truett was in the zone on Saturday, February 19, tallying five hits and leading the Lady Bantams to a 14-7 win over Gaston College Rhinos Varsity. Truett singled in the first, doubled in the third, doubled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Lady Bantams collected 18 hits and Gaston College Rhinos Varsity seven in the high-scoring affair. They got on the board in the first inning when Truett singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

The Lady Bantams scored five runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower was led by Jesse WickerTruettBrooke Andrew, and Molly Winstead, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Gaston College Rhinos Varsity scored three runs in the fifth inning. Gaston College Rhinos Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Serena Yalich and Emma Sattison, all driving in runs in the inning.

Andrew led things off in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Bantams. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out 15. Raynee Redington led things off on the rubber for Gaston College Rhinos Varsity. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing 14 runs on 18 hits and striking out three. Lady Bantams tallied one home run on the day. Andrew went deep in the fourth inning.

The Lady Bantams tallied 18 hits. TruettGabby KirkmanWicker, and Kailey Sanford each collected multiple hits for the Bantams. Truett went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead the Lady Bantams in hits and Sanford led with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with ten stolen bases.

Gaston College Rhinos Varsity tallied seven hits in the game. Emily Matthews and Redington all had multiple hits for Gaston College Rhinos Varsity. Matthews led Gaston College Rhinos Varsity with three hits in three at bats. Gaston College Rhinos Varsity tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Sattison led the way with two.

Game Two

Kailey Sanford was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond on Saturday, driving in six on two hits to lead the Lady Bantams past Gaston College Rhinos Varsity 20-6 on Saturday. Sanford drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the second, a in the third, and a groundout in the fifth.

The Lady Bantams earned the victory despite allowing Gaston College Rhinos Varsity to score five runs in the third inning. Gaston College Rhinos Varsity’s big inning was driven by a single by Serena Yalich and a home run by Emily Matthews. The Lady Bantams got things moving in the first inning, when Yalich induced Hannah Truett to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Stephanie Zeigler got the start for the Lady Bantams and the lefty went five innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out three.

Yalich started the game for Gaston College Rhinos Varsity. Yalich lasted one and one-third innings, allowing four hits and ten runs while striking out one. Emma Sattison threw three and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

Lady Bantams launched one home run on the day and Truett put one out in the fifth inning. The Lady Bantams scattered 13 hits in the game with Asia AllenAnna HinsonTruett, and Sanford each having multiple hits. SanfordTruettHinson, and Allen each collected two hits for the Lady Bantam’s lead.

Gaston College Rhinos Varsity tallied six hits. Raynee Redington and Sattison all managed multiple hits for Gaston College Rhinos Varsity.
