Bantams Defeat Blue Claws Post Grad

Game 1:

USC Union easily dispatched Blue Claws Post Grad on Tuesday, March 26, 18-2.

The Bantams tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tyler Strickland, and a walk by Michael Barron.

USC Union flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on six hits to take a 9-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Barron that drove in two.

The Bantams added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Barron walked, Colin Ingle walked, and Gram Morlan hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

USC Union scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brett Boone tripled, scoring two runs, Barron doubled, scoring two runs, Morlan grounded out, scoring one run, and Hayden Friend was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Blake Exizian earned the win for USC Union, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three.

The Bantams piled up 10 hits in the game. Boone and Barron each collected two hits and drove in three runs the Bantams. USC Union had patience at the plate, tallying 15 walks for the game. Kris Levensteins, Ingle, Brayden Corn, Barron, and Mason Elrod led the team with two bases on balls each. 

Corn stole two bases. USC Union ran wild on the base paths, tallying three stolen bases for the game. The Bantams turned three double plays in the game.

Game 2:

USC Union Bantams defeated Blue Claws Post Grad again, 11-0, thanks in part to eight runs in the fourth inning. Brayden Corn singled, scoring two runs, Brett Boone hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, Vince Alvarez doubled, scoring three runs, and Corn drew a walk, scoring one run.

A ground out by Alvarez put USC Union on the board in the bottom of the second.

Boone homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third for the Bantams.

Colin Ingle earned the win for USC Union. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. This was the first no hitter in USC Union school history!

Alvarez, the number eight hitter for USC Union Bantams, led the way with four runs batted in, going 1-for-2 on the day. Andy LaPerle, Boone, Michael Adams, Jordan Fricks, Clayton Goff, Corn, Michael Barron, and Alvarez each collected one hit for the Bantams. USC Union turned one double play in the game.

“Tuesday was a great day for the Bantams. Our starting pitchers stepped up in a big way,” said Head Coach Micah Stancil. “Blake Exizian started game 1 and ending the game throwing our first complete game of the season with a 18-2 win. Game 2 starter Colin Ingle decided to take it a little further by not only throwing a complete game but also by throwing the first No Hitter in school history. It was a complete day for the Bantams. Hitting, pitching and fielding. All in all great day!”
