Bantam Baseball Ends Florence Darlington’s Winning Streak

The USC Union Bantam Baseball team was announced as the Palmetto State Baseball team of the week (4/10-4/16) over the impressive victories against Florence Darlington Tech (Flo Dar). The Bantams took a pair of 5-4 victories ending Flo Dar’s 17-game winning streak. 

During game one, the Bantams ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over Flo Dar on Sunday, April 16.  The game was tied at four with the Bantams batting in the bottom of the fifth when Vince Alvarez singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. In the second inning, Flo Dar got their offense started. Flo Dar scored one run when Tj Anderson singled. Bryce Metts was on the pitcher’s mound for the BantamsMetts allowed two hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three.

Garrick Murray was on the hill for Flo Dar. Murray went four and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one.  Davis Aiken threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Bantams tallied one home run on the day. Trent Turner went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Clayton GoffTurnerBrayden CornMatt LakeJak Evertt, and Alvarez each managed one hit to lead The Bantams.

Anderson led Flo Dar with two hits in four at bats.

The Bantams grabbed an early lead in the second game on its way to a 5-4 victory over Flo Dar.  The Bantams scored on a home run by Trent Turner in the first inning and an error in the second inning. In the bottom of the first inning, the Bantams tied things up at one when Turner hit a solo homer. The Bantams pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second an error scored one run for The Bantams. Jacob Gregory led things off on the hill for the Bantams. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing one hit and four runs.

Tyson Hall was on the mound for Flo Dar. Hall surrendered four runs on four hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking one.  Tyler Nemtuda threw four and a third innings in relief.

The Bantams socked one home run on the day and had seven scattered hits. Turner had a homer in the first inning. Kris Levinstiens and Turner all managed multiple hits for The Bantams.  Turner and Levinstiens each collected two hits to lead The Bantams.

Noah Stout led Flo Dar with one hit in two at bats.
