Lady Bantams Split Against 9th Nationally Ranked Surry

Game 1:  USC Union Lady Bantams defeated Surry 8-2 thanks to a strong start.  Lady Bantams scored on a home run by Hannah Truett in the first inning, a single by Madison Goossens in the second inning, and an error in the second inning. Lady Bantams secured the victory thanks to five runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by Lady Bantams was led by Goossens and Alexandra Bell, all driving in runs in the inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Lady Bantams tied things up at two when Truett hit a solo homer.

The Lady Bantams pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Goossens singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs and an error scored three runs for Lady Bantams. Bell was in the circle for Lady Bantams. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one.

#12 was in the pitcher’s circle for Surry. undefined went two and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits.  #9 threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Lady Bantams smacked one home run on the day. Truett went for the long ball in the first inning. Lady Bantams scattered 11 hits in the game.  Madison Truett and Bianca Campos each collected multiple hits for Lady Bantams.  Truett led Lady Bantams with three hits in four at bats.  Lady Bantams was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Truett had the most chances in the field with five.

#20 went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Surry in hits.

Game 2: Despite a 4-run deficit in the fifth inning, Lady Bantams almost came all the way back, eventually falling 7-6 to Surry on Sunday.  Lady Bantams scored three runs in the failed comeback on a in the sixth, a single by Matigan Nettles in the seventh, and a single by Molly Winstead in the seventh.

Lady Bantams was right in it until Surry singled in the fifth inning. The team captured the lead in the first inning when Bianca Campos doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

#10 was in the pitcher’s circle for Surry. undefined went seven innings, allowing six runs on 13 hits and striking out two.

Katelyn Turner led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Lady Bantams. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing five hits and two runs.  Jill Hughes and Brianna Comptonentered the game as relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively. Lady Bantams tallied 13 hits in the game.  WinsteadDeAnna SweatGracie StarnesCampos, and Madison Goossens all had multiple hits for Lady BantamsGoossensCamposStarnesSweat, and Winstead each collected two hits to lead Lady Bantams.

Surry totaled ten hits in the game.  #10#15, and #6 all collected multiple hits for Surry. Surry didn’t commit a single error in the field. #10 had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
