After Zach Simmons graduated from USC Union, he continued his education through the USC Palmetto College online program. During his time as a student, he worked in the Opportunity Scholars Program center (OSP) as a tutor and is currently the USC Union Athletic Director. Simmons says, “USC Union helped challenge and push me to excel in the classroom, and also prepared me to be a leader.”
Simmons has been instrumental in growing the athletic department for USC Union. The program now includes four National Junior College Athletic teams that consists of women’s softball, women’s volleyball, men’s baseball, and men’s soccer. The home fields for the soccer and baseball teams are located in Jonesville, SC – a quick 9-mile drive from campus. The Bantams have also acquired the old high school gym in Jonesville that has been renovated as an indoor athletic training facility. This is the only indoor training facility in the Bantam’s NJCAA region. The Coop, home field for the Lady Bantams, is located on Main Street a few blocks from campus, formerly known as City Park.
“USC Union means a lot to me. Even going through a difficult time, the professors gave me life to keep reaching for higher goals. Coming to a place that truly cares about you as an individual is something that many students are trying to find. If you are at USC Union, then you have found the right place,” Simmons said.
