Lady Bantams Sweep USC Sumter

Game 1:

Madison Goossens drove in four runs on two hits to lead USC Union past USC Sumter Fire Ants 11-6 on Wednesday, April 17. Goossens hit a home run to right field in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring one.

USC Union got on the board in the top of the first inning after Peyton Morris laid down a sacrifice bunt, Goossens singled, and USC Sumter Fire Ants committed an error, each scoring one run.

Four more USC Union runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0.

Morris singled, scoring one run, and Goossens homered to right field, scoring three runs.

Brianna Compton led things off in the circle for USC Union, surrendering 11 hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking five.

Matigan Nettles, Goossens, Gracie Starnes, and Abby Benfield each collected two hits for USC Union.

Game 2:

Madison Goossens collected three hits in four at bats, as USC Union defeated USC Sumter Fire Ants 10-7. Goossens hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

USC Union got on the board in the top of the first inning after Peyton Morris singled, and Sophie Caley hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

In the top of the second, USC Union broke up the tie when an error scored two runs. Then a sacrifice fly by Abby Benfield followed to extend the lead to 5-2.

Goossens homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth for the USC Union.

Benfield started the game for USC Union. The starting pitcher surrendered 15 hits and seven runs (three earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none. Morris appeared in relief for USC Union.

USC Union collected 11 hits in the game.

Morris provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led USC Union with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Gracie Starnes and Benfield each collected multiple hits for USC Union. Starnes stole two bases. USC Union had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game and ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game.
