To support the growth of the Bantam men’s soccer team and the addition of Lady Bantams soccer, USC Union is bringing exciting updates to Jonesville’s Ronnie Jenkins Gymnasium.

The former Jonesville High School Gym is currently undergoing renovations to make it more hospitable to officials, fans, and student athletes. Updates include men’s and women’s locker rooms and restrooms, a new weight room, ADA restrooms, coach offices, and a changing room and shower for officials. Expansions to the soccer and baseball fields are also underway.

Mayor Ernest Moore is a big fan of Bantam Athletics and often takes the opportunity to watch the soccer and baseball games in Jonesville. He is “very excited” about the improvements to the facilities. “I’m so glad that the university was interested in the gym and bringing sports into the area,” he said. “I am looking forward to the future.”

Town Administrator Lee Chambers agrees that USCU’s presence in Jonesville has brought many spectators to watch the games. “Just having USCU in Jonesville has benefited the town,” he said. “Expanding the soccer fields will bring tourism to Jonesville.”

Ronnie Jenkins, the former Athletic Director at Jonesville High School, says USCU has been a good steward of the space. Jenkins came to Jonesville during the 1970-1971 school year, which he says was the first year after the gym had been built. “We took very good care of it,” he said. “Our students took a lot of pride in it.” Jenkins coached football, baseball, and basketball during his time at Jonesville. “I worked there for 32 years and never missed a day,” he said. He remembers when Jonesville hosted the conference tournament in basketball and the gym was packed with spectators. “There are so many good memories there,” he said. “I am proud that [USC Union] is enjoying it and making it looking good.”
