Opera at USC Comes to Union

Proud of the role it has played for 100 years building and sustaining student life, community and Carolina culture, the University of South Carolina Columbia School of Music leans in on the power of the first line of the alma mater to announce Sing Thy High Praise: 100 Years of Music at Carolina, a year-long celebration of the school and its people — past, present and future.

In honor of this celebration, Opera at USC is pleased to showcase its unique musical art form statewide with its production, Gianni Schicchi, a comic opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini. Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, Italian composer Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi depicts the life of a scheming yet ingenious peasant who tries to cash in on an old man changing the will and securing a payoff for his daughter’s wedding. The School of Music chose to highlight Puccini this season because the legendary composer passed in 1924, the year that the program was founded.

Join us Sunday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Main Street Junction for this free performance!
