USC Union’s enrollment has surpassed all expectations in past years due to the growth of the athletic department and nursing program. The athletic department had over 150 athletes at the start of fall 2024, with 21 of those being international student athletes. With this incredible growth comes the extra responsibility of USC Union to ensure that when students graduate, they are career ready.
The C.H. and Anna E. Lutz foundation has awarded USC Union a grant for the commitment of creating a Career Closet for USC Union students. The Lutz Foundation (501-C3) was established in 1995 with the purpose of endowing a foundation that would help to fund community needs. Since then, they have funded over $8,000,000 in grants, contributing to an average of 20-25 grants per year.
The Career Closet on campus will provide students with free or low-cost access to professional clothing for interviews, internships, and job-related events. It will include business attire, such as suits, blouses, slacks, skirts, and shoes. “By making business type clothing accessible, a Career Closet will help students make strong first impressions improving their transition from college to the professional world,” said Annie Smith, Director of Marketing, Development, and Alumni Relations.
With USC Union having a mix of traditional students, dually enrolled high school students, Veterans, international students, and older generations, the Career Closet will support the broader goals of career readiness and professional development for all ages. The Career Closet will also provide easy access to printing resumes, and will offer table etiquette and resume building seminars hosted by various departments.
