USC Union Launches 10-Year Master Plan

Union, SC – University of South Carolina is rolling out an ambitious 10-year master plan aimed at transforming the campus and solidifying Union as a true college town. A central part of the plan is the construction of a large multi-purpose facility aimed at enhancing student life and expanding the athletic department to include basketball.

Priority needs for campus included in the Master Plan entails a multi-purpose facility, new academic programs, food service, student wellness center, additional classrooms, faculty offices, and study spaces. The new multi-purpose facility will create the opportunity for large athletic events and tournaments. The design includes relocation of the existing gazebo, connecting it with the planned Alumni Center (Dawkins House) to unite all elements between the campus buildings. These spaces will elevate the physical beauty and spirit of the campus while impacting the vitality of downtown and enhancing community partnerships.

University and community stakeholders have emphasized that USC Union has profoundly changed lives, and the master plan builds on that legacy by furthering partnerships, creating innovative opportunities, and maintaining a strong student-centered focus. “The Master Plan committee included faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners, that brought together diverse perspectives. We were confident in working with Boudreaux Group in developing a successful plan for the future of campus and downtown Union,” said Annie Smith, Director of Marketing, Development & Alumni Relations.

Universities attract a steady influx of students and staff, that is a driving demand for housing, restaurants, and local businesses. The steady presence of an educated population also encourages community engagement, infrastructure investment, and long-term growth. The 60th anniversary celebrations, the Master Plan Vision, renderings of the multipurpose facility, and plans for other buildings around campus demonstrates that USC Union is planning for success and greater impact over the next 60 years.
