USC Union Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence
Union, SC – Established in 1965, USC Union is proud to announce its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of academic excellence, community engagement, and transformative education. This milestone year will feature the launch of a new Alumni Association, a Legacy Society to recognize donors, the introduction of the 10-year Campus Master Plan, a week-long celebration in April, and more events throughout the year.
New Alumni Association to Launch Mid-January
USC Union recognizes the invaluable contributions of its alumni in shaping the university’s legacy. To honor and strengthen this bond, USC Union has officially rolled out its Alumni Association. The association will serve as a vital connection between graduates and the campus, fostering networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and ongoing support for USC Union.

“The USC Union Alumni Association will be instrumental in building connections, facilitating professional networking, and giving back to a community that has shaped us,” said Annie Smith, Director of Marketing, Development, & Alumni Relations. “I am genuinely excited about the launch and believe it will be a huge asset to USC Union.”

60th Anniversary Celebrations
Since its founding in 1965, USC Union has provided accessible, high-quality education to generations of students. Over the years, the university has grown into a cornerstone of the community, empowering students to achieve their personal and professional goals.

USC Union’s first freshmen class in 1965 consisted of 51 freshmen with only one building (Main Building) making up the campus. In 1968, 19 new graduates crossed the stage for the first Commencement Ceremony at USC Union. The campus continues to grow in enrollment numbers, and in athletic and academic programs. Women’s softball, men’s baseball, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, and men’s golf teams all compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association (JUCO) level. The college also features club teams like the Bass Anglers, Rifle Team, and E-game Sports . For fall semester 2024, USC Union’s enrollment sat at around 1,360 students. The additions of athletic teams, Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, partnerships with various high schools for dual enrolled students, and other partnerships have been the driving force behind the hefty enrollment number.
“This year marks an impressive milestone for USC Union, celebrating 60 years of service to this area and beyond by providing affordable access to a high-quality USC degree,” said Dr.Randy Lowell, Campus Dean. “I am extremely excited to celebrate this over the coming year with all of our students, employees, alumni, and community partners. Not only will we highlight many of USC Union’s important accomplishments from over the past 60 years, but we will also look forward to sharing our vision for the work that lies ahead of us here for many more years to come. We will continue to explore ways to expand academic pathways, enhance experiential learning opportunities, and tap into collaborations with our amazing partners, to ensure that our students have all the resources they need to be successful, while also doing our best to benefit the communities that we are in. Happy 60th USC Union, and Let’s Go Bantams!”
While the university will hold a week-long 60th anniversary celebration in April – which will include concerts, the annual campus spring fling, Alumni and Legacy Society gatherings, and more – each month of 2025 will have a specific focus:
January – Alumni Association Month
February – 10 Year Master Plan Month: Moving USC Union Forward
March – Bantam Athletics Month
April – Week Celebration, April 7 – 11
August – Food Pantry Month
September – Career Closet Month
October – Donor/Scholar Month
November – Give Back to Community Month
December – Holiday Cheer Month

Alumni Association and 60th Anniversary merchandise will be available at the USC Union Bookstore with new specialized logos. “When USC Union partnered with Arrowhead Design Group (Spartanburg, SC) to create our stunning new athletic logo in 2024, it showcased their exceptional talent and creativity,” said Smith. “Building this strong collaboration, we enlisted their expertise once again to design logos for the Alumni Association and 60th Anniversary celebration.”
USC Union invites alumni, friends, and supporters to join in commemorating this historic year. Details about the Alumni Association and 60th Anniversary events will be shared on USC Union’s website (uscunion.sc.edu) and on their main Facebook page (facebook.com/uscunioncampus)
