A group of USC Union and USC Lancaster students and faculty traveled to England to visit a variety of famous writers’ homes and sites of literary inspiration. We arrived in Manchester, toured the majestic Lakes District in Cumbria, Northern England; spent time at poet William Wordsworth’s home, Rydal Mount, and hiked through the hills of idyllic Grasmere; spent time in Haworth touring the Bronte home; toured the great York Minster Cathedral, explored the famous shambles, and pondered the tragic history of Clifford’s Tower in the city of York; spent a day at William Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon; spent a day touring Oxford University, ducking in and out of seventeenth-century pubs and tea houses, and taking a gondola ride under the willowed river channel bordering the town of Oxford. From there, we spent a day touring the ancient Roman bathhouses in the city of Bath, wandered through bookshops and cafes, and took time to visit the Royal Crescent, a notable shooting location for the show Bridgerton. We concluded our trip with two jam-packed days in London. We toured the breathtaking Westminster Abbey, visited the Tower of London, participated in a method acting class, explored old London and the Thames marketplace, took a guided tour of the Globe Theater on the Thames, and attended a production of The Taming of the Shrew at the Globe.
