Athlete Spotlights

Meet the Bantams! Each week, The Bantam Blog will be highlighting a few members of our spring sports teams! Get to know our players!

“My favorite thing about being a student athlete at USC is that the community around our athletes in very support and always willing to help us out,” said Kaleb Butts, a freshman Angler from Starr, SC. A business major, Kaleb says he enjoys being able to travel around the country and learn about new lakes. His favorite team memory so far has been placing 6th in the Palmetto Boat Center College Trail on Lake Harwell alongside Cole Hunter. “I consider that my home lake, so all of my friends and family were there to support me and Cole,” he said. “We also got a walk-up song at the weigh in.” A fun fact about Kaleb is that he owns a company called Savannah River Takle that makes and sells fishing lures.

“My favorite team memory so far has been walking across the Bass College Series stage for the first time,” said MJ Lutz, a freshman angler from Lexington, SC. A freshman Biology major, he is grateful for the opportunity to travel with the team and fish in different states. A fun fact about MJ is that he was the mascot River Bluff High School. He hopes to eventually become a veterinarian.

“I’m looking forward to winning a lot of ballgames and having a great time while doing it,” said Aidan Blevins, a freshman baseball player from Columbia, SC.  A business major, he says his favorite team memory so far has been volunteering with the Union County Miracle League. A fun fact about Aidan is that he enjoys deer hunting.

Kendrick Wright, a freshman baseball player from Swansea, SC, says that he hopes to win big this season. He is planning to study Electrical Engineering and says that he loves the “culture” of USC Union. His favorite team memory so far is competing in the fall World Series. A fun fact about Kendrick is that he lives on a farm.

“This season I am looking forward to the region tournament because I believe the team can win that,” said Andrew Laperle, a sophomore baseball player from Arvada, Colorado. “My favorite thing about being a student athlete at USC Union is completing my education while making memories and friends.” His top team memory so far is beating Florence-Darlington last year. A fun fact about Andrew is that he enjoys the mountains in Colardo.

Vincent Alvarez is a sophomore baseball player from Sunrise, Florida. He is planning to study Kinesiology and says that the spring baseball season is his favorite time of year. His favorite team memory has also been beating Florence-Darlington. A fun fact about Vincent is that he is ambidextrous.

“My favorite thing about being a student athlete at USC Union is feeling like I am part of a family here, said Michael Adams, a sophomore baseball player from North Augusta, SC. A business major, he hopes to win region this semester.

“I enjoy being around the team and coaches. We are a big family!” said Trevor Merck, a sophomore (redshirt freshman) baseball player from Seneca, SC. He is studying business and says that his favorite team memory so far has been winning the first region tournament game last year. A fun fact about Trevor is that he also lives on a farm.
