Athlete Spotlights

Meet the Bantams! Each week, The Bantam Blog will be highlighting a few members of our spring sports teams! Get to know our players!

Chase Rogers is an angler on the USC Union Bass Fishing Team. He is a sophomore from Warrenville, SC and will earn his Associate of Science this spring. His favorite thing about USC Union is the flexibility of being able to complete his coursework close to home. “I am looking forward to travelling and fishing new lakes and fisheries this season,” he said. His favorite team memory so far has been travelling to Florida for a tournament on Harris Chain. “It was a different type of fishing that I was not used to and I learned a lot,” he said. Chase says that he would eventually like to start his own outdoor clothing brand and he has already designed a few logos.

Caleb Hudson is a Bantam Angler and sophomore business major from Lincolnton, NC. He is also looking forward to the opportunity to travel and fish as a Bantam. He says he enjoys the comradery on the team.

Williams Childers is a Bantam Golfer from Union, SC. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership through Palmetto College. “I’m looking forward to playing tournaments and competing,” he said. “There’s nothing better than a good competition.” His favorite team memory so far has been playing at Lexington Country Club.

Andrew Stephens is a Bantam Baseball player and sophomore business major from Columbia, SC. “My favorite team memory so far has been beating Florence – Darlington Stingers Baseball last year,” he said. He is grateful to be able to play collegiate baseball and likes to work out in his free time.

Austin Brown is a sophomore baseball player from Acworth, GA. He is hoping to win big this season and enjoys getting to know his teammates.  A fun fact about Austin is that he is a big LA Dodgers fan.

Tyler Strickland is a Bantam Baseball player from Seminole, Florida. “My favorite thing about being a student athlete is being able to earn my degree and play baseball and a higher level with the chance to keep going forward with my academic and athletic career,” he said. A sophomore business major, he enjoys the “brotherhood” he gets to experience with his teammates. A fun fact about Tyler is that he has a pet tortoise named Marty.

Jordan Fricks is a sophomore Bantam Baseball Player from Woodstock, SC. He is looking forward to competing in the playoffs this season, and he enjoys hanging out with his teammates on bus rides back to campus.

Jared Pendland is a sophomore baseball player and secondary education major from Asheville, NC. He hopes to set a school record in wins this season and looks forward to getting to know his teammates a little better. A fun fact about Jared is that he is a “die hard” Taylor Swift fan.

Clay Burgess is a sophomore baseball player from Waynesville, NC and will earn his Associates of Science this spring. He hopes to win a World Series with his teammates this season. Clay enjoys fishing in his free time.

“I love the community at USC Union,” said Jameson Madden, a sophomore baseball player and finance major from Cashiers, NC. “I am looking forward to going to battle with my brothers on the field.” His favorite team memories are post-game meals. Jameson enjoys watching movies in his free time.

“My favorite thing about being a student athlete at USC Union is the support from the surrounding community,” said sophomore baseball player and criminal justice major Jackson Jefferson. A native of Locust Grove, GA, his favorite team memory so far has been competing in the World Series in the fall. A fun fact about Jackson is that he, his father, and his brother have had the same baseball number their entire lives.
