The University of South Carolina Union held the first Mr. USC Union Scholarship Contest Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Main Building Auditorium. The proceeds went to help fund the Grace Revels and Mia Stokes Scholarship Fund.
Seven young men entered the contest with hope of winning a scholarship and being named the first Mr. USC Union. The theme of this year’s contest was “Brains and Brawn”. The audience was entertained with the opening number performed by the contestants to the song “It’s Raining Men”.

Each contestant participated in interviews earlier in the day. The night of the contest, they were judged on the opening number, introduction, on-stage question, sportswear, and business attire. Judges for the contest were Kylie Gregory, Amy Henderson, and Michael Sumner.
Zy’Kyah Jeter-Walton, Miss USCU Junior, performed a lyrical dance. Dr. Randy Lowell, Campus Dean, and Ada Kitchens, Dual Enrollment Coordinator, talked about USCU and the future.

As the evening concluded, all participants received a plaque for their participation. Junior Conteras was voted by his fellow contestants as Mr. Sportsman. The reigning Miss USC Union, Bianca Monteith, recognized William Childers as second runner-up and Colby Suber as first runner-up and crowned Tim Groenenberg as Mr. USC Union. All three young men received a scholarship for this honor.
The University 101 Class organized and fulfilled the responsibilities of the pageant details along with their instructor, Bobby Holcombe to ensure a successful evening.
